Scriptwriter Sayed Fouad, President of Luxor African Film Festival, stated that the upcoming edition of the festival will bear the name of the late Senegalese director Djibril Diop Mambéty (1945 - 1998), a director, actor, poet and musician, who presented feature films, both long and short, that carried the concerns of the African continent and received great international recognition in view of his quest to expose an African identity, Mambéty distinguished himself in a narrative style and a special experimental character. A book will also be published in French and Arabic on Mambéty by the Senegalese critic and journalist Najib Sagna.
Director Azza Elhosseiny, director of the festival, stated that the festival’s high board decided unanimously to award the great Egyptian star Hussein Fahmy the honor of the "Lifetime Achievement" for his tender and various works in his long journey in Egyptian cinema, which began after he finished his studies at the Higher Institute of Cinema, acting department in 1963, as well as his studies Film directing in the United States of America at the University of California, where he presented more than 125 films, and worked with major directors in Egypt, and his films achieved great public and commercial success. Fahmy also chaired Cairo International Film Festival's board of directors for a while. Luxor African Film Festival will also publish a book about the star Hussein Fahmy and his career, written by film critic Ahmed Shawky.
Luxor African Film Festival will be held from the 4th to the 10th of March 2022, and its board of directors chose Uganda to be the guest of honor country for its eleventh edition. The festival is hosted and organized by the iShabab Foundation with the support of the Egyptian Ministries of Tourism, Antiquities, Culture, Youth, Sports and Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with Luxor Governorate and the Syndicate of Film Professions, and sponsored by the National Bank of Egypt.
